Jesus Baptismal Site
The walk back to the site where Jesus was baptized in the Jordan by John the Baptist.

Sign by the baptismal waters.

Depiction of the site in Jesus's time. Note the church.

The church stood where the large canopy is now.

The actual site of Jesus's baptism.

Shrine depicting John and Jesus.

There were 3 layers of floors where the Church had stood, each
layer was a foot or 2 above the other.

The Jordan river is 100 yards up and to the left.  It was connected to John the Baptist spring. The Jordan is so much shallower because, upstream they
are using almost all of it to irrigate the Jordan river valley.

The Jordan river is only 30 feet wide now. This reduction in flow has caused
much of the Dead Sea to evaporate. It is down 60 feet from its ancient
levels. They may pump salt water from the Red Sea to the Dead
Sea and add 60 feet over the next 20 years.
