These rocks were used as milestones by ancient travelers. Moses lived about 2,000 BC.

When Moses people were in rebellion,  God sent a scourge of snakes. Many were bitten and died, finally, Moses asked God for relief, he told Moses to erect a pole with a serpent on it. If the people bitten would look at it, they would be saved from the snakes. Those who did, lived.
