On Friday, Sept
5th 2008, we met at Lynne B.'s house on Paris Ave. She had it decorated with
Louisville Leopard décor, the 1963 Mirror and
photos from classmateshigh school dazes and life journey photos. The
committee had prepared several different light fare items for the finger food buffet and dessert
buffet. It was great sharing old stories and new ones with classmates. Some chatted
around the buffet table, some chatted in the Gathering Room, but the bar area is where a
lot of us chatted till midnight.
Saturday morning, was cool and raining, but
that didnt dampen the spirit of four of us
who met for golf at The
Quarry Golf Course just SW of East
Canton. We could only play 9 holes due
to the weather, but it was fun to chat while we played.
At 1pm, 10 of us met Mark Sigler, the property manager for Louisville Public
Schools, at our old high school on Gorgas Street. Mark seated us in the old
auditorium and updated us with the plans for the demolition of the old high school. We
talked about old times at our old school.
Many remembered viewing John Glenn's first Mercury space
flight on Feb 20, 1962 from these auditorium seats! Others talked about having study halls
in this space, others shared about plays, Band concerts, cheer rallies, playing basketball
games on the stage, and of course holding hands and sneaking kisses with a then special
someone! (Lynne wrote this, not me!)
We walked through all the halls, stopping to view many of our old class rooms. In our old
Chemistry room, several of us show our battle scars from working with beakers of acid. We
saw the old Band room, music room, and of course Mr Boyles office, & the famous
tunnel. The stories flew about events surrounding the tunnel! We went to the
Home Ec room, where Mark Sigler talked about the wonderful smells that permeated the
halls. Then, shared homemade cookies with us! We told stories about Mr.
Moffetts biology class,--frogs, birds, and snakes & of course the Leopard!
Mark Sigler told us about the Moffett Scholarships. Mark told how Moffs
bequest has help hundreds of Louisville student go on to college. What a blessing his gift
and life has been to us and generations to come. The afternoon flew by and those present
enjoyed a wonderful trip down memory lane.
On Saturday evening 36 of us met on the
patio of the Granite Grille
overlooking The Quarry Golf
Course. It was a beautiful evening with
a gorgeous setting to enjoy appetizers and an open bar. As the quests arrived they
received a name tag with their graduation photo. The Ladies also received a Large
Louisville Mumthe style we wore to our high school football games. The committee set
up a memorabilia table with High School Letters, pom poms, megaphone, leopards,
Majorette dolls, band hats and lots of pictures from
the good old days. The centerpieces of Mums and leopard balloons added to the spirit of the evening & the table favors
were LHS motif cookies. We sat down in tables of 8 where most of the class of 63
[and most of us are age 63!] dined on strip steak dinners & open bar selections.
The tables were a buzz with chat and banter and a few of us enjoyed dancing to a good Frank Sinatra
impersonator. Before guests said their
farewells, we gathered for a group picture and also took a photo of classmates from each
area grade school.
A questionnaire was attached to the evening program
asking about suggestion for our 50th Class Reunion in 2013. So upon
closing, it was suggested by those present that we plan an event for 2010 as a rah rah to
get ready for our 50th. So keep tuned to this website to find the online
questionnaire, our 2010 event and of course the Big 50 in 2013.
